Scaleform FAQs

Unity Plugin

Who is Scaleform designed for?

  • Scaleform is better suited for more experienced game developers who wish to create 2D/2.5D content using Flash and either ActionScript, C# or C++. Content is developed in Adobe Flash Professional and usually requires an artist and scripter for content creation, animation, and interactivity. Flash content can then be displayed in Unity or in the standalone native Scaleform Player. Unity developers can use the Scaleform C# API to interact with their Flash content, such as receiving events and modifying the properties of Flash objects. Scaleform Mobile SDK users can use the provided Scaleform Player out of the box, or can use our C++ API to modify the player for their own purposes. Mobile SDK developers should be familiar with the programming environment of their choice: iOS/Xcode/Objective-C or Android/Eclipse/Java.

How many seats of Autodesk Scaleform do I need for my project?

  • As defined in the EULA, developers should purchase one Autodesk Scaleform seat for every Unity Pro seat being used to create and publish a game or application that utilizes Scaleform.

Do I need Unity Pro to use the Autodesk Scaleform Plugin?

  • Yes

What kind of support do you offer?

  • We offer a wide range of videos, documentation and kits (received with SF download) to help developers create top quality content as efficiently as possible. Our forums are also a great source to connect with other developers to share information. For more extensive support, we offer a premium support package that allows direct access to our developers. Please email us for further information and pricing.

Will this version of Autodesk Scaleform for Unity be compatible with Unity 4.0? Will I need to pay again when 4.0 is released?

  • When we have created enough significant new features we will offer the public a paid upgrade to a new version of the Unity Plug-in. As Unity has not made public when 4.0 will be released we can’t say whether we will have enough significant features to warrant a new version of Scaleform, or if we will simply offer 4.0 compatibility as a free patch for customers on the existing version. We will keep our customers posted through the forums.
