  1. How can I access the Developer Center and obtain eval versions of the Scaleform SDK; what is the approval process?
    Completely fill out our registration form, and a member of our staff will review your information. Please keep in mind that in order to be granted access you need to meet the following criteria:
    • Be a qualified game developer/publisher or VS&T (Visualization, Simulation & Training) developer with a track record of producing commercial PC and/or console games.
    • Have an official company domain address. We do not accept public email addresses such as AOL, Geocities, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.
  2. Is there a free version of Scaleform available (e.g. for academic purposes or independent developers)?
    Independent developers and students can download the latest UDK from the Epic website here which includes Autodesk Scaleform. We have plans to separately release Autodesk Scaleform to the public for non-commercial in the near future.
  3. Can I purchase Scaleform to create mods for "Crysis" or other games that used it in development?
    Scaleform is generally not used for modding or player-generated content. This may change when we release a public version.
  4. Are your products web browser plug-ins?
    No, Autodesk Scaleform is not a web browser plug-in.
  5. Is Autodesk Scaleform a 3D game engine?
    No. Autodesk Scaleform is a user interface and rich media vector graphics engine. However, we are integrated with some of the leading commercial 3D video game engines.
  6. How does Scaleform provide developer support?
    Scaleform support is provided through our online ticketing system located in our Developer Center. That is also where licensees can find complete documentation, demos, videos and forums.
  7. What platforms does Scaleform support?
    We support Windows for PC (DirectX9, DirectX 10, DirectX 11, OpenGL and Open GL 2), Linux®, Mac OSX®, "PLAYSTATION®3" (PS3™), "PLAYSTATION®Vita" (PSVita™), 3DS®, iOS®, Android®, Wii™, WiiU™ and Xbox 360®.
  8. I am a certified Xbox 360®/Wii™/ “PLAYSTATION®3” (PS3™)/ “PSVita®(PlayStation®Vita) ” developer. How can get access to the platform-specific Scaleform SDK that I need?
    Once we verify your status with the appropriate vendor we will grant you access to our Developer Center and our SDKs. There you can visit our Consoles and Engines FAQ for further instructions.
  9. Can I use my own 3D engine with Scaleform?
    Yes. Again, keep in mind that we are already integrated with some of the leading 3D game engines but are also relatively easy to use with in-house engines.
  10. How long does integration with a custom engine typically take?
    Depending on the complexity of the engine, a good integration can take between one to four weeks of development time.
  11. What 3D video game engines are already integrated with Autodesk Scaleform?
    Scaleform is integrated with a wide variety of engines including, but not limited to Unreal® Engine 3, CryEngine™ 2, Gamebryo™ , BigWorld®, Hero Engine™, and Trinigy Vision Engine™. More details and a complete list of our integrations can be found here.
  12. What types of game controllers does Scaleform support?
    Any controllers that the host operating system supports are supported by Scaleform (e.g., Xbox®360 gamepads, game console guns, "Wiimotes").
  13. What languages does Scaleform support?
    Most European and Asian languages with a TTF font are supported for text rendering. We also support Asian text input through IME (see below).
  14. Where can I find Scaleform samples and demos?
    Licensees of Autodesk Scaleform can find demos and samples in the SDK Browser or online in our Developers Center. UDK customers can access demos and documentation here.
  15. How often do you provide technology updates?
    Technical updates are generally released every month or two. Regardless of our release schedule, custom builds of Scaleform are available in a timely manner upon request if a critical hot fix is necessary.
  16. Am I required to purchase new updates?
    Updates are available free of charge provided that you have a valid Scaleform support contract.
  17. Is source code supplied?
    We sell two different license packages. The first is Source which includes complete source code and prebuilt libraries. The second is Lib which includes only the prebuilt libraries. Both packages include our award winning kits, demos, documentation and support.
  18. Can I customize your code?
    Yes, provided that you have purchased the Scaleform Source package.
  19. Do you support Flash® only or Shockwave as well?
    Currently, the Scaleform player only supports the Flash®-generated SWF file format.
  20. To what extent do you support the feature set in Flash®?
    All major Flash features that are nessesary for game development are supported. Scaleform is updated on a regular basis to support features that are most requested by our partners and customers. Approved registered users can access our “Flash® Support Overview” from our documentation page or download center.
  21. Do you support standard Flash® components?
    Scaleform has basic support for AS3 components but we recommend the use of CLIK, our component set that has been specifically made for Scaleform. We also support custom-made components. Registered users can access more information in our Developer FAQ as well as our Forums.
  22. Does Scaleform support integration with other tools such as Photoshop?
    Any tools that work with Flash® Studio work with Scaleform.
  23. Does Scaleform support native Flash® sound?
    Native Flash® sound support is currently available in Scaleform through the use of FMOD audio middleware or a custom native sound implementation provided by you.
  24. Does Scaleform support vector/TTF fonts?
    We support built-in fonts in Windows, "PS3™" built-in fonts, and external font files through FreeType 2.
